Peach and orange Metaxa cocktail

A refreshing summer Metaxa cocktail.

It’s peach season where we are! The beautiful Niagara peaches are now available in the grocery stores and outdoor markets and we are beyond excited! There is nothing quite like the juices of a ripe, sweet peach dripping down your chin. Messy? Sure. A little gross? Well, we don’t actually think so, but we suppose some might.

Although these peaches are amazing to enjoy just as they are, they are also incredible to use creatively. So, we’ve got quite a peach week in store for you all.

Peach and orange Metaxa cocktail

First up, because it’s Wednesday and because Wednesdays are great days for cocktails (yes, they are!), we decided to make a lovely summer drink using one of our favourite Greek spirits, Metaxa.

This amber spirit, which is neither a cognac nor a brandy, although many have likened it to both, is a wonderful addition to any liqueur collection. With its long history, and deep Greek roots, it makes any drink amazing. We hope that you give this cocktail a try; we think it’s a real peach!

Helpful hints

What if I can’t find Niagara peaches? Can I use another type of peach?

Sure. Just be sure to find the ripest, sweetest peaches you can. Also, be sure to wash them well because you will be pureeing them with the peel.

Can I use frozen peaches instead of fresh ones?

You can if you must, but you will end up with a slightly different and thicker drink. You may find that you need fewer ice cubes if you use frozen peaches. Adjust the ice to your taste.

What type of Metaxa should I use in this cocktail?

We used 12 stars Metaxa to make this drink but you can also use the 5 stars or 7 stars if that is what you have or can find for purchase; all of these will work well.
